Standard for paint supply systems

RIPPERT-News Standard for paint supply systems

The amended DIN EN 12621 is expected to come into force at the beginning of 2025. The interfaces to existing system components and the operating instructions will be important for industrial paint shops.

DIN EN 12621 is currently being revised and will apply to conveying and circulation systems for liquid coating materials by extending the requirements after publication. "This is a broader range of applications that applies to complex paint supply systems with ring lines as well as direct supply from the paint container to the spray gun," explains Ulrich Siemers. He is the CE representative at Rippert and is involved in the national and international committees for DIN EN 12621. In the course of the amendment, the structure was updated and - with a view to safety - additional requirements were formulated. These include, for example, position monitoring of agitator tanks, the enclosure of paint supply systems and the prevention of electrostatic charges. Two areas are particularly important for industrial paint shops: the interfaces between the paint supply and the existing equipment and the operating instructions. The interfaces include, for example, the connection to the compressed air supply, the application device or the recovery system. Part 6 formulates the requirements for the operating instructions, which in turn result in obligations for the user. These include reading the operating instructions, instructing employees and preparing an explosion protection document. Furthermore, painting companies may have to have an inspection carried out in accordance with BetrSichV or AwSV before commissioning the paint supply. "As a general rule, once the operating instructions have been handed over, they are deemed to have been read," says Siemers. This is important in order to use the paint supply system as intended and to avoid operating errors. The final survey for the amended standard is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2024. Publication is planned for early 2025.

Ulrich Siemers: "The revised standard will have a broader range of applications."
